Renewed fighting in northern Ethiopia effectively shatters 2022 peace deal that ended war

- On Thursday, renewed fighting escalated across northern Ethiopia, shattering the 2022 peace pact as Tigray rebels declared a "full-blown war" following Wednesday's seizure of three regional airports.
- Aiming to overthrow Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, the TPLF formed the Ethiopian Peoples' Forces Alliance for Survival with six opposition groups including the Oromo Liberation Army and Amhara Fano National Movement.
- Ethiopia's military reported killing 272 Tigrayan fighters and detaining many others, while Ethiopian Airlines suspended flights to Mekelle, Shire, and Axum following the airport seizures.
- Ambassador Ervin expressed disappointment in the TPLF's "poor decision to launch a large-scale offensive," stating the "unwinnable fight does nothing for the people" as the African Union and IGAD called for de-escalation.
