Red Sox Place Isiah Kiner-Falefa on the Injured List with Left Forearm Inflammation
The veteran infielder has hit .277 in 47 games this season, and the Red Sox said he will undergo an MRI.
On Saturday, the Boston Red Sox placed infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa on the 10-day injured list with left forearm inflammation, recalling Anthony Seigler from Triple-A Worcester to fill the roster spot.
Kiner-Falefa had played through nagging pain for more than two weeks, but the condition worsened Friday after the team's long flight to Seattle, with his forearm noticeably swollen by morning.
Through 47 games this season, Kiner-Falefa has started 31 games for the Red Sox, hitting.277 with 2 home runs and 13 RBIs while ranking in the 87th percentile for Fielding Run Value.
With the Trade Deadline looming, the injury complicates Kiner-Falefa's status as a potential trade asset, as he must demonstrate health to provide consistency for teams with infield gaps.
The Red Sox, navigating a season where 'if anything can go wrong, it will go wrong,' are exploring internal depth options like top prospect Arias, who recently played second base for Portland.
