Red Cross representatives are expected to resume visits to security prisoners held in Israeli prisons this week, marking the first such visits since the October 7 attacks, according to a Channel 12 News report. Israel’s security establishment is preparing for the renewed visits, which could begin as early as Wednesday. Red Cross access to the prisoners has been suspended since the outbreak of the war following October 7. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir sharply criticized the decision, taking aim at the High Court of Justice directive allowing the visits to resume. “The High Court’s directive to allow visits to Nukhba terrorists for the first time since October 7 constitutes a direct blow to the State of Israel’s security deterrence,” he said. Ben Gvir argued that tougher conditions imposed on security prisoners have contributed to a reduction in terror attacks, citing figures and an assessment he attributed to the Shin Bet. “The security reality is clear: There has been a decline of approximately 75% in terrorist attacks, and according to the Shin Bet, this is due, among other things, to the reform of prison conditions for terrorists.” The National Security Minister went on to level broader criticism at the Supreme Court over its handling of petitions involving security prisoners. “Unfortunately, the High Court consistently serves as an address for appeals by the enemy,” he said. {Matzav.com}
