Made from plastic bottles, recycled polyester clothing sold by fashion under cover of ecological approach is more polluting than those made of virgin polyester, according to an NGO study on Wednesday.
In a study published this Wednesday, December 10, the NGO Changing Markets reveals that recycled plastic clothing, sold under cover of ecological approach, actually releases more microparticles during washing.
Tests were carried out on 51 clothing from the brands Adidas, H & M, Nike, Shein and Zara. During washing, recycled polyester releases 55% more microplastic particles than virgin polyester.
Clothing made from recycled polyester releases over 50 percent more microplastics during washing than clothing made from virgin raw materials.
