78th Emmy Awards: Reba McEntire Performs Emotional Tribute to Dolly Parton
Sally Field remembered her late Steel Magnolias costar as Reba McEntire performed Parton’s 1983 ballad, three weeks after her death.
On Monday, the 78th Emmy Awards honored the late Dolly Parton with an emotional tribute segment, featuring Sally Field and country star Reba McEntire at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
The musical icon died on August 25, 2026, at age 80 following a "brief battle with cancer," prompting recognition of her seven-decade career spanning music, film, and humanitarian work.
Field, who starred with Parton in the 1989 film Steel Magnolias, praised her as "genuine and humble, supportive and blisteringly funny," while McEntire performed "Appalachian Memories" wearing jewelry that belonged to the late singer.
Part of the In Memoriam segment, the tribute highlighted Parton's television history, ranging from The Porter Wagoner Show to her various holiday specials and films.
Parton's impact extends through the Imagination Library, which has provided more than 330,000,000 free books to children, ensuring her humanitarian legacy continues beyond her entertainment career.
