WWE & Disney Discussing 'Special Events' for 2027
Mark Shapiro said the companies are targeting families and expects sponsorship and advertising revenue to finish 20% higher this year.
TKO President and COO Mark Shapiro revealed on Tuesday that WWE and The Walt Disney Company are discussing potential special events for 2027, aiming to target their shared family audience.
These discussions coincide with the second year of a five-year domestic media rights agreement, where Disney-owned ESPN holds exclusive United States rights to WWE premium live events on ESPN Unlimited.
Speaking Tuesday at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference, Shapiro addressed sponsorship and advertising revenue decline, attributing it to international scheduling while projecting a 20% increase by year's end.
Explaining the strategy to reach families, Shapiro said, "Frankly, I'm excited about 2027," noting his work with the Walt Disney Company to merge both brands' audiences.
Shapiro suggested PPVs viewership could rise now that YouTube subscribers can access ESPN Unlimited through existing subscriptions, expanding reach for premium live events.
