Kape Continues UFC Run, NZ's Stirling Rises to Win Too
Navajo Stirling earned his biggest MMA win and improved to 5-0 in the UFC after surviving early submission threats, officials said.
On Saturday, New Zealand light heavyweight Navajo Stirling defeated Moldovan veteran Ion Cutelaba via second-round TKO, preserving his undefeated professional record.
Stirling overcame significant adversity during the bout, surviving five takedowns and multiple submission attempts including a standing guillotine choke by the veteran gatekeeper.
Midway through the second round, Stirling capitalized after Cutelaba failed to keep him grounded, landing a barrage of punches that forced a stoppage at 3:23.
Stirling declared himself the "real deal" in his post-fight interview, stating, "I'm not afraid to get taken down because I'm going to get back up."
Now 5-0 in the UFC with back-to-back finishes, Stirling expressed a desire to return to the Octagon in October to continue his ascent in the light heavyweight division.
