RCMP swarm Kelowna neighbourhood
Police said the vehicle’s owner tracked it with a remote monitoring system before officers took one person into custody.
On Thursday, Kelowna RCMP swarmed Findlay Road in North Rutland after police received a report of a stolen vehicle spotted in the area, closing the street in both directions near Fitzpatrick Road.
The RCMP response began after an owner reported a stolen vehicle at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, having tracked it using a remote monitoring system before police located it on Findlay.
Witnesses observed several cruisers arriving around 4:30 p.m., while one police truck drove across residential front lawns to block the vehicle and officers yelled at one individual to get on the ground.
Police took one individual into custody, and a tow truck arrived just after 5 p.m. to remove the vehicle while Findlay Road closure remained in effect through Friday morning.
Kelowna RCMP are coordinating with the jurisdiction where the theft originated to determine circumstances, while Capital News has requested additional information from the force regarding the incident.
