RCMP officers seriously injured in Melville, Sask., shooting
The suspect remained inside for hours before police arrested two people and said there is no immediate risk to the community.
Two Saskatchewan RCMP officers were seriously injured after being shot upon arrival at a home on 8th Avenue W. in Melville, Sask., during an armed standoff Sunday night.
An allegedly armed man remained inside the home until around 2 a.m. Monday. Eventually, he and another person exited, ending the hours-long standoff.
The injured officers were transported to a hospital in Regina with serious injuries but are now in stable condition, receiving ongoing medical care.
Chief Supt. Chamberlin confirmed police arrested both individuals upon exiting the home, though one was released without charges as the investigation continues.
Residents in the Saskatchewan community should expect a heightened police presence, though officials stated there is no immediate risk to the public following Sunday's events.
