A Rare Video of a Working Donkey Shows Demanding Work and Daily Challenges
A OnePoll survey found 77% of 2,000 UK adults want to improve working animals’ lives, but 49% have done nothing to help.
In a unique video, 13-year-old donkey Lagdaf hauls 400 litres of water daily in Mauritania, where summer temperatures reach 45°C, illustrating extreme physical demands on working animals.
Working Animals International released the video ahead of World Animal Day on October 4, aiming to expose daily challenges including plastic waste and traffic hazards facing millions of working animals.
The OnePoll research of 2,000 UK adults found 83% believe working animals are often overlooked, while 77% want to improve their lives and 65% worry about climate crisis impacts.
Despite 81% believing more should be done to support these animals, 49% of people confessed they have never taken action, revealing a significant gap between concern and assistance.
James Harcourt, chief executive for Working Animals International, said: "By seeing the world through his eyes, people can better understand the challenges working animals face every day, the essential role they play in their communities and why their welfare matters.
