Archaeologists in Paderborn have discovered a rare, almost completely preserved medieval book, dating back between 700 and 800 years, in a former latrine. The find offers insight into the daily lives of merchants and the rich urban environment of medieval Westphalia.
In Paderborn, in the eastern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, archaeological research has been underway since 2024. It was commissioned prior to the construction of a new municipal administration building. During the excavations, archaeologists discovered, among other things, five medieval latrines.
