Rangers player banned from road after drink driving crash
- On Tuesday, Dujon Sterling, a Rangers Football Club player, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court where Sheriff Mary Shields fined him more than £2,000 and banned him from driving for 12 months after admitting drink-driving and careless driving charges.
- Driving his grey Mercedes Amg Gle in the early hours of January 4, Sterling lost control and crashed into a barrier near the M8 motorway in Glasgow after CCTV showed him driving in an "erratic manner."
- Police breath testing revealed Sterling had 60 microgrammes of alcohol within 100 millilitres of breath, nearly three times the legal limit of 22 microgrammes, while CCTV footage showed him "narrowly missing a vehicle" before the crash.
- Defense lawyer Ronnie Simpson stated Sterling is "very remorseful" for his actions and accepts he should not have been driving; his employer Rangers had already imposed a financial penalty on the footballer.
- Despite the legal troubles, Sterling featured for Rangers in a crunch title match on Monday against Hearts, scoring his side's only goal in a 2-1 defeat to the league leaders.
