Wave of Business Owner Retirements Puts Succession Planning in Focus for Orlando Companies
Jelley says the successors have been partners since 2016 and will keep the practice’s independent values and service unchanged.
Andrew Jelley is retiring from Andrew Jelley Opticians, based in Bromyard and Tenbury Wells, handing the practice to successors Alex and Rebecca Lane.
Arriving 40 years ago with his wife, Louise, Jelley called his time in the communities a "privilege," noting the industry has seen "enormous" change requiring focus on "care and quality."
The pair took full ownership last year after becoming partners in 2016. Jelley assured customers they are in the "very best hands," with the business continuing exactly as patients trust.
Jelley explained his retirement came "rather unexpectedly" due to a property opportunity in North Wales. He added, "I and my colleagues have not had much time to plan an exit," but appreciated kind messages received.
Recent research shows nearly half of small-business owners expect to step away within a decade, yet only a small percentage have fully developed succession plans. Early planning protects value and provides clarity for employees and families.
