Racist graffiti sprayed on walls of Manchester coffee shop
Police say the graffiti included swastikas and “white power,” and the New Hampshire Department of Justice civil rights unit was notified.
Manchester police are investigating the vandalism of The Moka Pot on Hanover Street as a suspected hate crime after offensive language and hate symbols were spray-painted on the building early Wednesday.
Investigators believe the incident occurred between midnight and 4 a.m. Wednesday, when vandals smashed several windows and spray-painted "white power" and swastikas on the shop's exterior.
Manchester Police Chief Peter Marr called the act "a deliberate act intended to intimidate and instill fear," emphasizing his department is treating the vandalism as a serious hate crime.
Co-Owner Dan Haggerty stated the business will remain open, while Mayor Jay Ruais insisted the act does not reflect Manchester's values as community members rallied to support the shop.
Authorities continue to seek information regarding the incident, which echoes a 2023 Portsmouth vandalism spree where the attorney general charged a 17-year-old under the state's Civil Rights Act.
