Raccoon Named Mayonesa Rescued After Head Caught in Mayo Jar
Dallas Animal Services sedated the young raccoon, removed the jar and sent her to wildlife rehab after several days without food or water.
Dallas Animal Services rescued a raccoon named Mayonesa earlier this week after the young animal roamed a Dallas neighborhood with a mayonnaise jar stuck on her head for multiple days.
DAS officers previously attempted several unsuccessful captures as Mayonesa remained just out of reach. On Monday, DAS Officers Miller and Southerland spotted her near an abandoned house and executed the rescue.
After capturing the animal, the team sedated her to safely remove the jar. While she suffered from dehydration after days without food or water, DAS officials said she remained in remarkably good condition.
Texas Metro Wildlife will provide Mayonesa with several days of rehabilitative care before releasing her back into the wild, DAS officials said.
Dallas Animal Services urged residents to dispose of household containers responsibly, warning that discarded jars and cans pose dangers to local wildlife when left in the environment.
