Putin says Russia will use ‘all weapons’ in its arsenal if any of its territory is attacked
Putin said Russia would answer any attack on Kaliningrad with all weapons in its arsenal, while NATO rejected Moscow’s blockade claims and nuclear warnings.
On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned the West against threatening Kaliningrad during the Valdai International Discussion Club meeting in Moscow, stating any direct attack would force Russia to use all available weapons.
Kaliningrad has become a flashpoint following recent British media speculation about the exclave as a potential target, prompting the Russian Embassy in the UK to warn on Sept. 29 that NATO action would face a response using all means at Russia's disposal.
Putin claimed the West intends to break up the 'former Russian Empire,' citing it as justification for threats, and invoked writer Anton Chekhov, stating, 'If a gun is hanging on the stage, sooner or later it must go off,' regarding nuclear use.
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte called for calm on Wednesday, Sept. 30, stating there is 'no immediate threat' to NATO territory and dismissing the nuclear threats as non-serious, adding that Putin is aware Russia could not beat NATO in a war.
The Kremlin has expanded military training for children, raising the share of mandatory instruction to 50% of school time, while Russia maintains the war in Ukraine 'was started against us' and continues rejecting ceasefire proposals.
Russia threatens NATO with nuclear weapons. Directly and not veiled. More important is the reason. The hysteria in the Kremlin focuses on Russia's weakest point – and our most difficult problem to handle.
The Kremlin chief oracles about a forthcoming attack by NATO on Kaliningrad, even threatening the use of nuclear weapons. No Kremlin chief has done that since the 1980s – what's behind it?
