Punjab government acquired over nine acres near Dera Ballan to establish a centre for research and global dissemination of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji's teachings at Rs 10.50 crore.
- On Thursday, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced the Punjab government acquired 9 acres of land for Rs 10.50 crore to establish the Sri Guru Ravidass Bani Adhayyan Centre near Dera Ballan, Jalandhar.
- The government described the initiative as aiming to undertake research, preservation and dissemination of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji's teachings through seminars, publications and community programmes, and said it is committed to popularising the teachings globally.
- Records show three registries covering 76 Kanal 19 Marla and costing Rs 7,02,54,659 in villages Naugaja and Faridpur.
- The government says the centre will act as a symbol to bridge social and economic divides ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's February 1 visit.
- The government framed the effort as reviving nearly six-century-old teachings of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji, while observers say the move aims to appease the Ravidassia community ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections and noted three registries were effected as of Thursday.
