Punjab: Railway Track Blast in Patiala, Accused Dies in Detonation Attempt; Opposition Criticises Govt
Forensic teams are examining the damaged freight line after police said the person trying to plant the bomb died in the blast.
A low-intensity blast damaged a railway track on the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation line between Rajpura and Shambhu in Patiala, Punjab, late Monday night, killing the individual attempting the detonation.
Patiala SSP Varun Sharma described the incident as a "low-intensity blast" and confirmed forensic teams are collecting evidence, including a SIM card, from the blast site where a disfigured body was discovered.
Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force teams joined the probe alongside forensic experts, with authorities declining to confirm any link between the explosion and the recovered body as the investigation continues.
The SAD and Punjab Congress targeted the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party government over deteriorating law and order, with opposition leaders calling for urgent steps to secure vital infrastructure across Punjab.
This incident follows a similar blast on a freight corridor in Sirhind in January, just two days before Republic Day; agencies are working to "unravel this entire conspiracy very soon" through technical investigation.
