PTI mulls southern route for Oct 4 long march
The party says the march will stay peaceful as leaders weigh talks with the federal government and possible governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
On Friday, a six-member delegation representing the federal government and Pakistan Peoples Party met Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leadership to discuss the party's planned October 4 protest march toward Islamabad.
Federal ministers warned the Centre may impose governor's rule or an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa , citing the province's security situation and the PTI's insistence on proceeding with the protest march.
PTI leadership is considering launching the October 4 long march from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's southern districts, with Karak and Dera Ismail Khan among possible starting points as the party finalizes its strategy.
National Assembly Opposition Leader and TTAP Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai ruled out attending talks at the Speaker's Chamber, though PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan confirmed the delegation would meet for discussions.
While PTI officials claim the march is a "democratic approach" to protest, the government likens the movement to a "provincial government attacking the capital," and authorities have made arrangements to block participants.
