Prominent Revelstoke home-builder finds gap in bylaw for 34 new units
The project includes mostly one-bedroom homes starting around $300,000 and 45 parking spaces, as council approved zoning variances over resident objections.
On Tuesday, April 28, Revelstoke City Council approved a development permit for Boxfort Homes to build Outpost, a 34-unit housing project on Oscar Street, despite community opposition regarding zoning variances.
City staff endorsed variances—including a 28% increase in impermeable surface cover—as "minor changes" not expected to impact adjacent properties, though residents and councillors expressed character concerns.
Boxfort founder Chris Pollen told Black Press Media the Outpost provides "some of the most attainable homes that Revelstoke has had in a really long time," avoiding expensive vertical townhome designs.
Only Councillor Aaron Orlando voted against the permit, explaining his vote aimed to signal that the development's intensity was "a little too much" in this case.
Boxfort will host a sales launch for local Revelstokians at the Regent Hotel on Monday, May 18, at 2 p.m., before opening the buyer pool to non-Revelstokians that evening.
