Daryz Makes It Back-to-Back Prix De l'Arc Triumphs
Daryz became the first colt in nearly 50 years to defend the title, with Bay City Roller second and Diamond Necklace third.
On Sunday, October 4, 2026, four-year-old Daryz secured his second consecutive victory in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at ParisLongchamp, ridden by Mickael Barzalona for owners Aga Khan Studs.
Owners Aga Khan Studs gambled by keeping Daryz in training at four, as most top-class colts retire at three for breeding fees; the decision secured a winner's cheque of more than £2.5m.
The result looked inevitable once Barzalona pulled Daryz out to make his run, finishing ahead of Bay City Roller and Diamond Necklace, with the Prix Foy serving as the key form guide.
Daryz became the first colt in almost 50 years to defend his title, emulating the Vincent O'Brien-trained Alleged who won in 1977 and 1978, while Enable achieved back-to-back wins in 2017 and 2018.
"To win this kind of race twice proves that Daryz is an exceptional horse," Barzalona said, noting the horse's talent made the difference despite a rough race where nothing went to plan.
This Sunday, purebred Daryz, mounted by Mickaël Barzalona, won the 105th edition of the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and scored his second victory in this mythical race.
