Princess of Wales Visits Historic Welsh Wool and Denim Makers

The Princess of Wales visited Melin Tregwynt and Hiut Denim in west Wales on Tuesday to celebrate British textile heritage and craftsmanship.
Melin Tregwynt has been operating since at least 1841 and became an employee-owned trust in 2022, while the Princess has visited weaving and textile workshops over the past 12 months.
On the mill floor she tried weaving and warp-tying with local weavers Sean Jenkins, Lydia Dunn, and Georgina Scorey, then stitched a Wales-made tag into 245 organic Hack jeans at Hiut Denim.
Melin Tregwynt managers welcomed the attention from the royal visit, with James Lamb calling it a "huge privilege" and the Princess receiving a king-sized Vintage Star blanket.
The visits underscore the revival of local manufacturing and intergenerational skill transmission, as Cardigan's factory closed in 2002 but Hiut Denim revived production in 2011, preserving family business traditions.
