Princess of Wales Visits Pembrokeshire Woollen Mill

The Princess of Wales operated looms and repaired fabric at Melin Tregwynt, highlighting traditional Welsh wool craftsmanship and supporting local industry, the mill said.

  • The Princess of Wales toured Melin Tregwynt in north Pembrokeshire to see how the mill produces Welsh wool blankets from start to finish and then traveled by royal cavalcade to Hiut Denim in Cardigan.
  • The Princess of Wales made the visit to spotlight Wales's leading textile producers and showcase premium fabric making, reflecting her sustained interest after tours including a January tartan-weaving studio in Stirling and visits last year to textile workshops in Carmarthenshire, Suffolk, Kent and County Tyrone.
  • Trying her hand at production, the princess wove a Welsh blanket with Sean Jenkins, watched strand preparation from Holly Williams, completed a 2in repair under Paula Harding, and stitched a Made in Wales tag into 245 organic Hack jeans.
  • Melin Tregwynt presented the princess with a Vintage Star king-sized blanket, and James Lamb said `It was a huge privilege, we are so fortunate to have her come to visit us.`
  • With roots stretching back to 1841, Melin Tregwynt has woven continuously, became an employee-owned trust in 2022, and sells blankets for up to 450, while Cardigan's jeans industry dates to the 1960s and was revived in 2011.
