Princess Eugenie Scrambles To Explain Meghan Markle’s $26K Gift on eBay
- On Friday, a personally signed copy of The Bench by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, inscribed to Princess Eugenie, appeared for sale on eBay for £19,999 or "best offer." The listing has since ended.
- Dated 2021, the handwritten inscription reads: "2021 Dear Eug & Jack, Celebrating the special bond between father and son." Meghan wrote the poem at Frogmore Cottage, where Princess Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank lived after the Sussexes relocated to the United States.
- Specialist bookseller Nicholas Joseph Greenwood of Drive Easy's Signed Books listed the item, which attracted more than 20,000 views before the sale closed. Greenwood claimed the dedication was written in Meghan's "highly celebrated, fluid signature calligraphy style."
- A spokesperson for Meghan declined to comment on the book's authenticity. While it remains unclear how the copy ended up on eBay, observers have speculated that Princess Eugenie may have parted with the gift.
- Reports suggest Princess Eugenie prefers keeping her royal duties and commercial relationships separate. Insiders argue she has been among the few royals consistently warm toward the Sussexes, despite friction regarding their return to Britain.
