Princess Diana’s ‘Revenge Dress’ Expected to Sell for £220,000 at Auction
Sotheby’s says the dress is expected to bring $150,000 to $300,000, with part of the proceeds going to NHS Lothian Charity.
Sotheby will auction Princess Diana's iconic "Revenge Dress" in New York later this year during Luxury Week, with estimates reaching up to $300,000.
Diana first wore the Christina Stambolian gown on June 29, 1994, at the Serpentine Gallery in London, the same evening Prince Charles publicly admitted his infidelity with Camilla Parker Bowles.
Ahead of the sale, the dress will embark on a global exhibition tour including a London display from September 18 to September 24, with proceeds benefiting NHS Lothian Charity.
Morgane Halimi, Sotheby's global fashion head, noted Diana turned the gown into a "powerful message" during one of the most "scrutinised and emotionally charged episodes of her life."
The auction marks the first sale since 1997, when Diana sold 79 dresses to benefit AIDS and cancer charities; it will be sold with a rare, signed catalogue.
