William Celebrates 20 Years as Centrepoint’s ‘Proud’ Patron with Cake
Prince William praised Centrepoint’s staff and highlighted a pilot scheme aiding at-risk schoolchildren during his visit to the charity’s new Whitechapel offices.
- At Centrepoint's Whitechapel headquarters, Prince William, Prince of Wales, marked two decades as patron by cutting a three-tiered chocolate sponge cake made by celebrity baker Juliet Sear.
- Diana, Princess of Wales first introduced William to rough sleepers, and when asked to be a formal patron, he said he did not want to be an `ornamental patron`, pushing the charity to do more.
- Completing a `Wall of Hope` mural, William added finishing touches and painted its central heart orange, joking `I don't want to ruin your masterpiece` with artist Lanre Olagoke and young people.
- Praising staff, William said he was proud to be part of the Centrepoint family and chatted with staff, young people, and award winners recognised by Centrepoint.
- William has pushed the charity to expand services, including setting up the helpline, and called the Upstream England pilot a `gamechanger`, requesting statistics to advance the project.
