Slovak Prosecutor General Maroš Žilinka has rejected Prime Minister Robert Fico's call to resign. He called Fico's action a blatant political pressure and part of a long-term effort to control the Prosecutor General's Office of the Slovak Republic. The Slovak Prime Minister called on him to resign at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
The coalition cannot dismiss him on its own.
In Slovakia, a long-simmering dispute between Prime Minister Robert Fico and Prosecutor General Maroš Žilinka has flared up. The Prime Minister called on the latter to resign, saying that Žilinka was too “oppositional”. The head of the independent office refused.
