Video of Baby Boy Before Death as Adoptive Dad Accused of Murder
Witnesses described repeated worries about Preston’s health, including vomiting and convulsions, as the court examined messages and videos sent before his death.
On the fourth day of proceedings at Preston Crown Court, prosecutors presented videos and photographs they allege demonstrate physical, psychological, and sexual abuse of 13-month-old Preston Davey by adoptive fathers Jamie Varley and John McGowan-Fazakerley.
Evidence shown to the jury included footage of Preston being "kept awake" and images of the toddler in a paddling pool, which prosecutors describe as evidence of cruelty and indecent material.
Text messages between the defendants revealed Varley's aggression, including his response to McGowan-Fazakerley: "It's your f***ing fault now f*** off." Other messages claimed Preston "might have had another seizure" but indicated no hospital visit.
A Home Office post-mortem examination discovered Preston had sustained more than 40 separate internal and external injuries, deemed "unexplained, inconsistent with a version of events given" by the defendants.
Both men, of Staining Avenue, Blackpool, deny all charges including murder and child cruelty, as prosecutors allege McGowan-Fazakerley failed to remove Preston from the danger his partner presented.
