Next Friday, September 11, when the 53rd anniversary of the coup d’état that overthrew socialist President Salvador Allende in Chile in 1973 will be the first time since 1990, when Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship ended, that the government in office will not hold an official ceremony in memory of the bloody events of that day and the 17 years of human rights crimes that followed him.
