Population of Ireland Exceeds 5.5 Million People

Population rises to 5.5m but number of under 14s falls below 1m for first time since 2014

Population of Ireland exceeds 5.5 million people

New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the country's population was estimated to stand at 5.526 million in the 12 months to April 2026 with more people aged 65 and over and fewer children under the age of 14 in the country.

This is an increase of 66,900 people in the 12 months to the end of April.
