Waitrose, Sainsbury's and More Issue Hand Wash Recall over Microbiological Risk

The recall covers batch codes 6210A and 6211A after testing found Pluralibacter gergoviae, which can cause infection in vulnerable users.

  • Baylis and Harding urgently recalled its Oud, Cedar and Amber 1L Hand Wash Refill after testing identified Pluralibacter gergoviae, an anaerobic bacterium, prompting major retailers including Amazon, Ocado, Sainsbury and Waitrose to pull the product.
  • The Office for Product Safety and Standards said "the product presents a microbiological risk," failing to meet the Cosmetics Regulation requirements; contamination may lead to infection in vulnerable users or those with compromised skin barriers.
  • Affected Batch codes 6210A and 6211A are printed on the base of the pouch. Consumers should "stop using the product immediately and return it to their place of purchase for redress."
  • Baylis and Harding apologized, stating "no other products have been affected by this issue." Customers with questions may contact Waitrose Customer Care at 0800 188 884, Option 4.
  • Waitrose has issued a separate warning to Consumers regarding the recall, urging them to check their bathrooms for affected Batch codes and ensure immediate removal of the product.
