Residents of Lyon's 'Chemical Valley' seek compensation over PFAS contamination
Arkema and Daikin Chemicals, two companies suspected of being responsible for the largest area of PFAS pollution in France, have been summoned before the Lyon judicial court by 192 adults and children living in a polluted area south of Lyon. The plaintiffs are seeking more than €36 million in compensation for the harm they have suffered.
Originally from the Chimie Valley, near Lyon, they claim more than 36 million euros in damages.
Nearly 200 residents of the "valley of chemistry" south of Lyon have brought two groups of eternal pollutants to justice, claiming more than 36 million euros in compensation for damages. This type of action could multiply while contamination with PFAS is everywhere in water and in the soil. On Monday, February 2, 2026, 192 inhabitants of the Chemical Valley, accompanied by several associations and a law firm, brought to justice Daikin and Arkema to seek redress, following the prolonged contamination of the territory with the PFAS, these eternal pollutants.
They are already promising "one of the largest civil trials in Europe". 192 inhabitants of the Lyon metropolis announced on Tuesday 3 February that they had brought to justice the Arkema and Daikin Chemical groups to claim compensation for the damage they consider to have suffered as a result of the PFAS rejections by both parties.
