Hochul's Favorability Rating Declines While Her Lead Against Blakeman Increases in Latest Poll
Hochul’s favorability falls to its lowest level in about a year, but she still leads Blakeman by 16 points as many voters barely know him.
On Tuesday, the latest Siena University Poll showed New York Governor Kathy Hochul's favorability and job approval ratings fell to one-year lows, though her lead over Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman grew to 16 points, 49-33%.
Pollster Steven Greenberg noted that Hochul's declining ratings fell most among independents, men, and New York City voters, reflecting broader voter dissatisfaction with the state's direction on cost of living and housing.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman faces significant name recognition challenges, with 64% of respondents saying they have either not heard of him or have no opinion, limiting his ability to gain traction beyond his Nassau County base.
Voters remain deeply divided along party lines, with Greenberg observing that "six months out, voters are largely in their partisan lanes," as three-quarters of Democrats back Hochul and three-quarters of Republicans support Blakeman.
While 49% of New Yorkers believe the state's best days are ahead, strong majorities of New Yorkers feel the United States is headed in the wrong direction on seven key issues, including making prices more affordable.
