Crash kills 2, injures 2 outside B.C. mall after driver’s apparent ‘medical emergency’
Police say preliminary information points to a medical emergency as four pedestrians were struck, killing two and injuring two others.
- On Wednesday, a vehicle struck four pedestrians on Tsawwassen First Nation land in South Delta, killing two and injuring two. The collision occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m. in the Tsawwassen Mills parking lot.
- Preliminary information indicates the driver may have experienced a medical emergency prior to the collision. Police said the crash was unrelated to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation walk taking place nearby at the TFN Recreation Centre.
- Video posted from the scene shows a truck against the Tsawwassen Mills exterior with ambulances and a helicopter in the parking lot. Witness Rafael Saenz told CTV News he saw people on the ground nearby, saying "I was literally 10 feet away from them."
- The Tsawwassen First Nation ended its ceremony early following the "civil emergency," asking participants to leave the area. The Nation said it is "deeply saddened to confirm that an incident occurred" during the walk.
- Delta Police are investigating the scene and advised the public to avoid the area, confirming there is no "ongoing risk" to public safety. Officials are requesting any dashcam footage from the time of the incident to assist with the inquiry.
