Police arrest Pakistan ex-PM Imran Khan's sister in Lahore ahead of party's planned march
Police said the 30-day preventive detention was ordered over public-order concerns as PTI plans a march demanding Imran Khan’s release.
- On Sunday, Punjab police detained Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan, in Lahore and transferred her to Kot Lakhpat Jail under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance.
- Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz authorized the 30-day detention under the 1960 preventive law, claiming her public presence poses a "grave threat to public safety."
- Following Aleema's detention, authorities also arrested her sisters Noreen Niazi and Uzma Khan; Kasim Khan, Imran Khan's son, alleged police "abducted" relatives after forcing them into vehicles without explanation.
- Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi warned the government would "not leave any loopholes" to stop the march, while PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan condemned the arrests as "illegal and high-handed."
- PTI supporters plan to march toward Islamabad on September 27 demanding Imran Khan's release, as authorities have erected roadblocks in the capital to block the mobilization.
