‘Predator with Hair Extensions’: Former Mayor Avoids Major Jail Time for Having Sex with Teen at House Party
The judge suspended most of the term if Roberts completes treatment and probation, while the state had sought a 17-year sentence.
On Tuesday, Ad Hoc Judge Kent Savoie sentenced former DeRidder Mayor Misty Roberts to 90 days in jail for sexual misconduct involving a juvenile, alongside five years of concurrent suspended sentences for felony convictions.
During a July 20, 2024, gathering at Roberts' residence, she engaged in sexual activity with a 16-year-old boy, resulting in charges of indecent behavior with a juvenile and carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
Victim impact statements revealed significant trauma, with the victim's mother calling Roberts a 'predator,' while District Attorney James Lestage and prosecutor Charles Robinson argued for the maximum 17-year sentence citing crime severity.
Upon release, Roberts must pay a $5,000 fine and serve five years of supervised probation while remaining a registered sex offender; defense attorney Adam Johnson confirmed she declined a $150,000 appeal bond.
Clinical psychologist Dr. Sasha Joy Lambert testified Roberts was in a 'mental health crisis' during the incident, though prosecutors emphasized a lack of genuine remorse; the case prompted Roberts' resignation and sustained community scrutiny.
