PM Modi Arrives in Kyrgyzstan to Attend SCO Summit
Modi will meet Kyrgyz and other SCO leaders as India seeks stronger regional ties and a shared push against terrorism, separatism and extremism.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kyrgyzstan on Sunday, August 30, at the invitation of President Sadyr Zhaparov to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit and hold bilateral meetings with regional leaders.
- Founded in 2001, the 10-member SCO marks 25 years at the summit scheduled for August 31–September 1, bringing together China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan as founding members.
- Chinese President Jinping also arrived in Kyrgyzstan on Sunday to participate in the summit and is expected to hold bilateral meetings with various SCO leaders during the gathering.
- National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang held the 25th meeting of the Special Representatives mechanism in Beijing on Tuesday, reaching an eight-point consensus on boundary delimitation and border management.
- Jinping is widely expected to attend the BRICS summit in New Delhi on September 12–13 before traveling to the U.S. for a meeting with President Donald Trump.
