The narcos used the so-called 'mycs' or 'trepers' method, accessing the ship on the high seas by means of artisanal stopovers to hide the drug in previously selected containers.
Authorities found 163 packages of cocaine weighing a total of approximately 5,000 kilograms, hidden among more than 20,000 shipping containers.
The ship was seized to the port of Sines by the judicial police. It is suspected that there is a large amount of drugs on board.
The National Unit to Combat Narcotics Trafficking leads the operation. Quantity of drugs, origin and destination of the ship are still unknown.
Agents of the National Police, in a joint operation with the National Crime Agency (NCA) of the United Kingdom and the Portuguese Judicial Police, have intervened about five tons of cocaine hidden in a container carrier and arrested three people after intercepting the vessel near the archipelago of the Azores, in the largest seizure carried out on a vessel using the method of the so-called 'mycs' or 'trepers'.
