Android 17 QPR2 Enables Pixel 11 Pro HiLight for Messages
The update adds separate message and call controls in HiLight, with Google Messages working now and WhatsApp support expected.
- Google released Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6.1 today, expanding support to the full Pixel 11 series after last Thursday's initial Beta 6 excluded these models. Google warned users may need to re-enroll Face Unlock on Pixel 11 Pro Fold.
- Last Thursday's Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6 excluded Pixel 11 devices, covering only Pixel 6a through Pixel 10 models. Google's Mishaal Raman confirmed Pixel 11 builds were in development, explaining the timing delay.
- In Settings > System > HiLight, a new Messages from favorites toggle appears alongside Speaking with Gemini and Calls, with description 'Glows when your favorite contacts send you messages.' This represents the third HiLight option available.
- Users activate the feature by selecting favorite contacts in the Contacts app, then enabling HiLight to display the Messages option alongside Phone calls. Google Messages is supported today, with WhatsApp support expected.
- Beta 6.1 includes the September 2026 security patch and installs on stable builds, with a stable Android 17 QPR2 launch expected in December. Google has confirmed HiLight as a priority for near-term improvements.
