The law of unit salary puts the parties of the government in front of a double pressure: Romania risks losing 770 million euros of the PNRR, and any reform of the salaries of budgetarians can fuel dissatisfaction at a time of decrease of purchasing power and austerity.
The 8 billion lei threshold of the new payroll law can reverse Romania's rating to 'junk', affecting state funding.
Interim Minister of Labour, Dragoș Píslaru, said on Thursday that, for Romania, the risk of a downgrading in the "junk" category is more important than the stake of meeting the milestone of the PNRR, worth 770 million euros. He warns that the country could reach the unrecommended category of investors if the salaries of the budgetarians will be increased without the state having the necessary money in the budget.
