MLB Suspends Pirates RHP Chris Devenski, Skipper Don Kelly
MLB said Devenski intentionally threw at Sal Stewart and fined him, while Don Kelly was also suspended and fined for the incident.
Major League Baseball announced Tuesday that Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Chris Devenski has been suspended for three games for intentionally throwing at Cincinnati Reds infielder Sal Stewart, with an undisclosed fine also issued.
During Saturday's 17-7 win at PNC Park, Devenski threw at Stewart in the seventh inning, resulting in his immediate ejection from the game.
MLB senior vice president for on-field operations Michael Hill also suspended Pirates manager Don Kelly for one game and issued an undisclosed fine for his role in the incident.
Devenski is scheduled to begin serving his three-game suspension Tuesday night as the Pirates open a road series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Should Devenski choose to appeal the decision, the suspension would be delayed throughout the process, preventing immediate enforcement of the penalty.
