Pippi Longstocking Animated TV Series in The Works at StudioCanal
The 52-episode reboot will be written by Sara Daddy and produced with Heyday Films and Submarine as StudioCanal expands the franchise.
StudioCanal and Heyday Films are developing a new 3D CGI animated TV series based on Pippi Longstocking, the iconic character created by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren.
First seen in print in 1945, the Pippi Longstocking books have sold more than 90 million copies worldwide and been translated into 80 languages, establishing a global literary icon.
Screenwriter Sara Daddy is scripting the 52 x 11-minute series with production beginning in October, reuniting the Emmy and Annie Award-winning team behind The Adventures of Paddington.
Anna Marsh, CEO of Studiocanal and CCO of Canal, said the team is "determined to honour Astrid Lindgren's legacy" with this ambitious animated series collaboration.
The project marks a major new chapter for the Pippi Longstocking screen franchise following the character's 80th anniversary in 2025, aiming to reach new generations across global markets.
Studiocanal is working on a new animated series about the adventures of Pippi Longstocking, trade magazine Variety reports. A reinterpretation of Astrid Lindgren's character will be featured in 52 episodes of eleven minutes each.
