Phantom Codes Achieve Entangling Logical Qubits Without Physical Operations, Up To 8

Researchers have demonstrated a new quantum error correction technique, termed ‘phantom codes’, which enables fault-tolerant computation by creating entanglement between logical qubits solely through qubit relabelling, achieving potentially one to two orders of magnitude reduction in logical errors compared to conventional surface codes for specific computational tasks.
