The 2027 Rugby World Cup will feature 24 teams competing in six pools, with an expanded knockout phase allowing more nations to qualify, officials said.
- On Oct. 1, 2027 Perth Stadium in Western Australia will host the opening match with the Wallabies facing a team to be determined, kicking off the expanded men's Rugby World Cup.
- Tournament organisers will allocate teams into six pools of four using end-of-November rankings to create four bands of six for the Dec. 3 draw, Brett Robinson said.
- Qualification is nearly complete with 23 teams confirmed after Chile defeated Samoa on Sept. 27, and the final spot will be decided in a four-team Dubai playoff from Nov. 8-18 featuring Samoa, Belgium, Namibia and either Brazil or Paraguay.
- Tournament officials said the draw for all 24 teams will occur via a live video link on Dec. 3, with the six-week tournament ending on Nov. 13, 2027, at Sydney's Olympic stadium.
- Specific cross-pool matchups have been mapped for the first knockout round: winners of Pool A, B, C and D will face the four best third-place teams, while Pool E and F winners meet runners-up from Pool D and B.
