A new poll in Hungary shows that people in the central European nation who voted for the new government broadly support LGBTQ+ people’s rights. The poll, conducted just before Péter Magyar’s Tisza party won national elections against Viktor Orbán’s extremely anti-LGBTQ+ Fidesz party, found that 71% of Tisza voters supported or somewhat supported increased rights for LGBTQ+ people. Hungary's new leader, Péter Magyar, has popular support for moving closer to the EU. But a new poll shows he faces a Gordian knot that could hinder his ability to change Hungary for the better.
According to a survey published by The Guardian, 77 percent of voters of the Tisza Party led by Péter Magyar expect an ambitious climate policy and 71 percent expect the protection of LGBTQ+ rights from the new government.
