People of Twin Cities Awarded JFK Profile in Courage Award over Resistance to ICE Surge

- The JFK Library Foundation announced on Thursday, March 19, that the people of the Twin Cities will receive the Profile in Courage Award for peaceful resistance during the immigration surge.
- After deadly confrontations earlier this winter, federal authorities deployed more than 3,000 agents to the Twin Cities, prompting protests after the Jan. 7 and Jan. 24 incidents.
- Community organizations and faith leaders organized rapid-response networks while tens of thousands of local residents peacefully marched and neighbors in Minneapolis and St. Paul provided food and patrols.
- Kennedy and Schlossberg will present the awards on May 31, and said, 'Without public servants of integrity committed to maintaining the highest standards of institutional excellence and independence like Chair Powell, and citizens willing to put their lives on the line to hold America to its promises, our democracy can't survive,' said Caroline Kennedy and Jack Schlossberg.
- The award positions Twin Cities recognition within a national debate about civic bravery and Jerome Powell's independence, with nearly 100 recipients since 1989, the foundation said.
