Penguins Tap Ron Francis as Special Advisor for Hockey Operations
Ron Francis will help with strategic planning, roster construction and other front-office decisions as the Penguins seek to rebuild into contenders.
Two-Time Stanley Cup winner Ron Francis rejoined the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday as a special advisor for hockey operations, returning to the franchise where he won back-to-back championships.
Francis, a Hockey Hall of Famer, played eight of his 23 NHL seasons in Pittsburgh, winning Stanley Cups in 1991 and 1992 with the franchise. His deep ties to the city made him a natural fit for the advisory position.
Before returning to Pittsburgh, the 63-year-old executive spent seven seasons with the Seattle Kraken, serving as their first general manager from 2019 until his 2025 promotion to president of hockey operations.
In his new role, Francis will provide expertise during critical events including the NHL draft, training camp, the trade deadline, and free agency while supporting the Penguins' player development staff.
Pittsburgh president of hockey operations and general manager Kyle Dubas said Francis "has a deep affinity for the city of Pittsburgh and the Penguins" and is an "outstanding ambassador" for the organization.
