Nigeria: PENGASSAN Withdraws Services Nationwide Over Rift With Dangote
PENGASSAN demands reinstatement of over 800 dismissed workers and calls for immediate halt to crude and gas supply to Dangote Refinery amid escalating labour dispute.
- PENGASSAN's General Secretary Lumumba Okugbawa announced a nationwide strike, directing all members to cease services from 00:01 on Monday, September 29, 2025, and field duties from 6:00 on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
- PENGASSAN said the walkout was prompted by alleged unlawful dismissal of over 800 Nigerian workers at Dangote Refinery, replaced with over 2,000 Indian expatriate workers in violation of labour laws and International Labour Organisation conventions.
- Ordering supply cuts, PENGASSAN directed an immediate halt to crude and gas supply to Dangote Refinery and told International Oil Companies to cut production and feedstock deliveries while targeting control room operators, panel staff and outfield personnel for a nationwide shutdown.
- The refinery described the directive as criminal and an act of economic sabotage that would disrupt nationwide supply, warning the strike could plunge Nigerians into fuel scarcity and cause government revenue losses.
- PENGASSAN vowed the strike will continue until dismissed workers are reinstated and appealed for urgent intervention by the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria and relevant government agencies after the NEC meeting on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
