'Part of My World Flew Away to Heaven': Tributes Pour in as Victims of Helicopter Crash Outside Montreal Identified
Police and federal investigators are examining the crash after four occupants died in a family helicopter ride to celebrate a birthday.
- On Saturday, a helicopter crashed in Sainte-Brigide-d'Iberville, 50 kilometres southeast of Montreal, killing four people. Victims were identified as Gabriel Jasmin, a radio host for Bell Media, his mother-in-law Chantal Raymond, brother-in-law Loucas Perreault, and pilot Suzanne Jutras.
- The flight was intended to celebrate Raymond's birthday, but ended near Highway 10. Police initially suggested difficulties shortly after takeoff, though SQ spokesperson Valérie Beauchamp later clarified the aircraft was returning when the crash occurred.
- Expressing her sorrow, Océane Perreault wrote she has "no words to describe the pain" after losing her partner, mother, and brother. She described Jasmin as "the love of her life" and Raymond as "her rock, her comfort, her home."
- Provincial police concluded their initial investigation, transferring the case to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada. Federal Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon appointed an observer to monitor the federal investigation alongside the TSB.
- Bell Media station 106.1 offered condolences to Jasmin's loved ones and colleagues, while the farming community paid tribute to Jutras, calling her their "favourite pilot of the past three years." The Quebec coroner's office also launched its investigation.
