Panthers Place Aleksander Barkov on Long-Term Injured Reserve with Injury to Left Leg
The Panthers said Barkov will miss at least 10 games while evaluations continue after the captain injured his left leg.
On Saturday, the Florida Panthers placed captain Aleksander Barkov on long-term injured reserve after he sustained a left leg injury, sidelining the center for at least 10 games.
Barkov suffered the injury midway through the second period of Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks, falling awkwardly after contact with Darnell Nurse.
The captain previously missed the entire 2025-26 season due to torn ligaments in his right knee, having been instrumental in Florida's Stanley Cup championship runs in 2024 and 2025.
Sources told ESPN's Emily Kaplan the Panthers remain optimistic the injury is not season-ending, though the team has not revealed specific details as evaluation continues.
Florida plays Sunday at the Anaheim Ducks, with Barkov having gone scoreless in his first two appearances this season before the injury sidelined him.
